The Producers

May 20-22, Imperial Theatre

~one of the most high-energy, laugh-a-minute shows ever to be produced by Saint John Theatre Company.  Get your tickets soon and spread the word - this is a show you do not want to miss!

The Producers will be directed for Saint John Theatre Company by Bob Doherty and stage managed by Mare Lewell with musical direction by Richard Kidd, choreography by Jenn Mabey, and costumes by Brenda McLeese.

“The Producers is the funniest musical I have ever seen. The hardest thing for me to do in preparing to direct this show is trying to stay focused on the script and stop laughing while I’m reading it,” adds Bob Doherty, Director.

The story concerns two theatrical producers who scheme to get rich by overselling interests in a Broadway flop, titled Springtime for Hitler. Complications arise when the show unexpectedly turns out to be a success. The Producers was adapted by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan from Brooks' 1968 film of the same name, with lyrics by Brooks and music by Brooks and Glen Kelly. The original Broadway production, starring Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick, won a record-breaking twelve Tony Awards. It spawned a successful London production, national tours, many productions internationally and a 2005 film version.

“Saint John audiences have always loved musicals and there is a great following for comedies so a musical comedy such as The Producers should appeal to many local theatre goers,” comments Bob Doherty, Director.  “If you’re not in the audience or in the cast of The Producers, you’re going to miss out on a great show and a great time!”

The Producers will play from May 20-22nd at Imperial Theatre.  Tickets are available at Imperial Theatre box office: 674-4100 or 1-800-323-7469.
