Pride 2010 - President's message
The month of June is the beginning of Pride celebrations throughout Canada. Saint John will be celebrating its own Pride August 6-15. On behalf of the Board of Directors of Port City Rainbow Pride I invite everyone to participate in as many of the events as they are able.
This year marks the 225th anniversary of the incorporation of the City of Saint John, the oldest incorporated city in Canada. As we celebrate this milestone we are able to cast our imaginations back over those years and to appreciate the evolution and celebration of diversity within our city and the world. Diversity is the measure of the health of any community: when we see, appreciate and celebrate the variety and depth of human expression and personality we come to understand that community is only made stronger by the weaving together of the rich threads of diversity.
One of the richest expressions of this diversity is found within the LGBTQ community. As an ally I celebrate the rich experiences this community brings to our society: we are nurtured, informed and engaged by their commitment to justice and to the joy of being alive.
Pride: It is not just something that the LGBTQ community has, it is something that all of us should celebrate. For without diversity, the hues and colours of creation will be wilted and watered down. Share your pride this year, and everyday, with the citizens of the first incorporated City in Canada.
